Section of Barcelona board believes star player should be sold despite Xavi Hernandez opinion

Since Bayern Munich expressed interest in Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo in January, there has been constant talk regarding his future, making him one of the biggest storylines this summer. Barcelona’s negotiations for the Uruguayan’s contract have stopped, and if a new agreement cannot be reached, they may put him up for sale this summer.

The club’s economics are the primary determining factor. It is anticipated that the Blaugrana will need to make at least one sizable sale, with Araujo’s asking price estimated to be between €80 and €100 million. Marca, however, reports that certain members of the Barcelona board also feel that because of his declining results, he should no longer be treated with the same respect as other “untouchables.” That is in spite of the fact that Xavi Hernandez, who continues to start him alongside Pau Cubarsi, still views him as such.

They believe that compared to previous seasons, the 24-year-old’s form this year has seen him appear slower, interfere less, and commit more errors. The fact that he has received eight yellow cards in 31 games this season as opposed to seven in 43 the previous season is one of the statistics used to illustrate this. The most well-known errors came against Valencia on Monday night and Paris Saint-Germain last week, to which Xavi said, “Ronald has saved us on many occasions.”

Araujo is one of the few players who seems open to a move and is drawing interest, despite claims in public that he is happy in Barcelona. Whether or not they believe his performances have dropped, it appears as though Barcelona may be compelled to take action. It’s not impossible that these disclosures are intended to lessen the impact for the supporters and divert some of the bad publicity that comes with selling Araujo.
