Ronald Araujo has emerged as one of the favorite players for FC Barcelona fans since his incorporation into the club’s first team. The Uruguayan defender has shown his commitment and passion for the Catalan club numerous times since he made his first-team debut in October 2019.
In addition to his love for Barcelona, the Uruguayan has also showcased his abilities to prove himself to be one of the best players in his position in the world and has regularly also been deployed on the flank by Xavi, where he has also excelled.
All these virtues make him an ideal player to have in the squad, but his long-term continuity at the club may be in for a severe test. According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Araujo has emerged to become the number one transfer target for the German club, Bayern Munich.
The report claims that the first contact between the player and the officials of the Bavarian club has already taken place, as there was a phone call between the Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel, the Sporting Director Christoph Freund, and Ronald Araujo.
The current Munich coach clearly stated to the defender that he wants to sign him urgently, preferably in the upcoming January window. Tuchel is also open to waiting till the summer to get Araujo, and has told the defender not to worry about the costs as he will ask Bayern to pay whatever is necessary to get him into his squad.
There were already reports some days ago, including from Fabrizio Romano, that Bayern are interested in the defender, and that Tuchel loves him as a player. Still, this will be a very difficult transfer operation for Bayern Munich, as the defender has clearly shown his loyalty and love for Barcelona numerous times.
However, they have made their contacts, and now it depends on Araujo to make a decision on this matter. Even if the player decides to leave, Barcelona would be totally unwilling to sell him, and are most likely to point to his €1 billion release clause for Bayern to get him.
