Barcelona to bid farewell to 21-year-old defender this summer

Due to Barcelona’s abundance of central defenders, some of them will probably be leaving this summer. Mamadou Mbacke, 21, appears to be one of those people.

The Senegalese defender, who spent the previous season on loan at Villarreal B, joined on a Los Angeles FC loan last summer. With the exception of injury and suspension, he has started every game under Rafael Marquez this season, playing 22 times overall. However, his license caused him to miss the first nine games of the season. He has also been utilized in first team training by Xavi Hernandez, who has been closely monitoring him.

The Blaugrana has a €4 million buyout option, but Sport claims it is unlikely to use it, therefore he’ll probably play Major League Soccer again. He will miss their final four games of the season as well as any potential play-offs due to an ankle injury that, after more examination, will need surgery. Diego Percan, a teammate, will also be out for the upcoming six months due to surgery.

Mbacke would likely have to compete for a spot in the senior team due to the fight for center defense spots. He would not be able to return to Barcelona until they exercise his purchase option and sell him for a profit. He wouldn’t get a chance to go into the summer behind players like Pau Cubarsi and Mikayil Faye unless there was a huge withdrawal.
