Barcelona could be served with huge setback in pursuit of Xavi replacement

Germany produces a large number of players whom Barcelona and Joan Laporta believe are deserving of Xavi’s place. Julian Nagelsmann, the manager of the German national team, is one such contender.

The former manager of Bayern Munich has had a challenging time lately with the national team, raising questions about his future. But things seem to have drastically changed for him during the most recent international break.

Is renewal approaching?
Nagelsmann’s contract with the National Team expires this summer, as SPORT reported, and the German Federation is now interested in extending it.

In the upcoming weeks, the two sides are anticipated to meet, at which time Nagelsmann is expected to be presented with a renewal offer that extends until 2026, subject to certain restrictions.

One such need is related to how well the squad does in the next European Championships that they will be hosting. The agreement may be mutually dissolved in the event that Germany is unable to advance past the Group stage.

The manager is nevertheless willing to take an offer from a club even though he does not see the idea favourably. Undoubtedly, his choice will have a significant impact on Barcelona’s search for a new manager.

Not on the schedule?
As was previously reported this week, Barcelona has withdrawn four strong candidates from the running to succeed Xavi, giving distinct explanations for each one.

Because Nagelsmann has only managed Germany and Bayern Munich to the top levels of competition, Barcelona believes the coach lacks experience at the highest levels.

It wouldn’t be shocking if the tactician decided to accept Germany’s offer, given Barcelona’s apparent lack of interest and the unexpected rise of the German National Team following Toni Kroos’ comeback.

The EUROS may very well prove to be the decisive element in the upcoming crucial weeks.
