Atletico Madrid want swap deal with Barcelona for Joao Felix

Joao Felix has been in doubt about his future for over two years now. He has been on loan at Chelsea for one season and is currently in his second season with Barcelona. He is destined to be a bench player, and Atletico Madrid is unlikely to bring him back.

Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes and Barcelona have scheduled a meeting soon to discuss his future, with Barcelona having publicly said that they wish to retain Felix. Felix, 24, was not willing to leave European football, so Atletico Madrid last summer was eager to transfer him to Saudi Arabia. It appears that Felix will close that option once more.

Felix is eager to stay at Barcelona, but they now appear more interested in signing him to a contract for a loan for the upcoming season if the parameters are appropriate financially, while Atletico is more focused on completing a permanent transfer. Mendes had thought of trading Atletico Ansu Fati, but the Rojiblancos are not sold on the proposition.

A permanent deal for Ferran Torres would be made by Atletico, according to Sport, although Inigo Martinez has also been mooted as a possible makeweight. Though Xavi views Torres as a vital member of the Barcelona team, Torres has not yet shown a wish to quit the team.

Felix’s odds of moving elsewhere appear to be as small as Barcelona’s likelihood of giving Atletico the money they want, thus it appears that both parties will need to come up with a game-changing plan to retain Felix in Catalonia. Mendes has his job cut out for him, but the three of them seem “condemned to find an understanding,” as the Spanish phrase puts it.
