Barcelona to announce renewal of midfielder next month

According to the most recent news out of Catalonia, Barcelona plans to extend captain Sergi Roberto’s contract for an additional season. Some at the club had speculated about his exit earlier in the season, but his leadership abilities and recent performances have earned him a new contract.

Deco and Xavi seem to have given up on Roberto enough, as the 32-year-old will now be among the team’s lowest earnings after signing a third one-year deal. Roberto’s choice has benefited by Xavi’s unwavering support for his renewal, and he also supports his coach.

“With the staff, we will all be at his side till the very end. It was the finest decision, Roberto told Sport, and the dressing room environment is excellent. We are doing well.

“We haven’t won any titles this year, which is unfortunate, but I think that with Xavi and our team’s continuity, we will be able to compete for all the titles next season.”

The same source claims that Roberto’s contract extension may be revealed before to the season’s conclusion, which for Barcelona is the last weekend of May. The veteran is drawn to the prospect of leading the team when they return to the refurbished Camp Nou in the upcoming season, and money has not been a barrier to prior renewals.

Roberto is a semi-regular visitor to New York and has expressed a desire to play Major League Soccer at the end of his career. Barcelona has benefited from his presence this season even with limited resources, and it seems doubtful that they will find such a cheap, adaptable rotational component in the transfer market that is at ease being utilized whenever and whenever, while also providing balance to the younger players in the group.
