Bayern Munich want €70 million Barcelona midfield superstar, club open to sale

Major news alert: Frenkie de Jong, the standout midfielder for Barcelona, is reportedly being targeted by Bayern Munich for the summer, according to journalist Alberto Martinez (via iMiaSanMia).

After struggling in the Bundesliga championship fight this season, the Bavarian powerhouses are eager to bolster their team and have allocated €150 million for such purposes.

De Jong about Bayern’s plans
Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, is therefore one of Bayern Munich’s objectives going into the summer transfer season.

The Bundesliga’s top teams have long had their eye on the Netherlands international, having watched him play for AFC Ajax.

In fact, the article claims that Bayern had previously considered a summertime bid for De Jong, but it was ultimately abandoned.

But as the 2024 summer transfer window approaches, they are ready to make a major move for De Jong and are interested in signing him once more.

Barcelona anticipates receiving between €60 and €70 million.
De Jong, on the other hand, is content at Barcelona and has already voiced his frustration at the unending rumours about his future there.

But as long as a strong offer for the Dutchman materialises, Barça themselves are not ruling out his departure.

The Catalans are considering selling a player, most likely one of De Jong, Raphinha, or Ronald Araujo, as they are aware that they must raise €100 million by June 30.

Barcelona thinks they could trade De Jong for between €60 and €70 million, which would take care of most of their issues.

Along with Robert Lewandowski, the Dutch midfielder is one of the most paid players at the team, thus his departure would also free up a large portion of their pay budget.

Beyond that, Barcelona is hoping to add Aleix Garcia from Girona and feels that they have a strong midfield group in players like Ilkay Gundogan, Pedri, Gavi, and Fermin Lopez.

Therefore, selling De Jong is not completely out of the question. Although nothing is official just yet, Bayern Munich is intrigued, and Barcelona may be willing to negotiate.
