Decision made – Barcelona will appoint former defender as manager if Xavi leave

According to a shocking revelation published by Albert Masnou via SPORT, Barcelona has ceased their search for a new coach and is just considering whether to promote Rafa Marquez or keep Xavi on as head coach.

This week, according to the journalist, will have a significant impact on Barcelona’s future both on the pitch and in the dugout since the results of the matches against PSG and Real Madrid will determine the team’s immediate direction.

Xavi hasn’t changed his mind about leaving at the conclusion of the season as of yet. But the management has made some demands, including bolstering the team with important additions like Joshua Kimmich and Martin Zubimendi.

There are a lot of factors involved right now, so the club should wait to make any firm choices in order to concentrate on the immediate issues. Clarity should become apparent by the end of the week.

The previous choices weren’t effective.
It’s said that the group has started to reduce the number of possibilities. Over the last few weeks, the once-promising German path has lost steam; the only person still being considered, owing to his availability, is Hansi Flick.

Despite early talks with Deco, Roberto De Zerbi has not made much progress. The substantial buyout provision in his current deal and other factors preclude any meaningful progress in the discussions.

This is one of the many reasons why Barça’s search for a new coach is becoming more difficult. To begin with, they have no desire to go far and wide for a new partner. Furthermore, it’s unclear if the player they choose will blend in well at Barça.

A significant choice is still waiting.
Barcelona must make a significant choice. The club will let Xavi to remain on if he so chooses. However, there’s a catch: just as he did when he first stated his intention to leave, he must now publicly declare his desire to stay.

Joan Laporta, the club president, is rather enthusiastic about this proposal, and if Xavi concurs, the president will approve of his stay.

However, the club has another alternative in mind in case things don’t work out with Xavi or if he still wants to leave: Rafa Marquez.

The reserve club, which the former Mexican defender from Barça used to manage, has performed admirably thus far, finishing in the playoffs the previous year and coming close to being promoted to La Liga 2.

Because Marquez is used to the club’s procedures, gets along with the president and other executives, and is familiar with the younger players, the club believes he may be a good match.

Therefore, in the event that Xavi is not retained, Marquez appears to be a good option, even though they may have other names in mind.
