Barcelona suffer another blow, Spanish veteran missing from training

Barcelona’s injury season doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon. Gavi, one of Barça’s best young talents, was already gone to a long-term injury brought on by an ACL issue that required surgery.

Furthermore, throughout this year, several important players have suffered injuries at some time. Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Frenkie De Jong, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and others have previously experienced some kind of injury or absence.

Marc Andre Ter Stegen appears to have been the most recent casualty of injuries. The German custodian, who is ranked first for Barça, appears to be missing out on action due to back issues. His availability against Atletico Madrid remains uncertain.

But it seems that another Barcelona player has now skipped training, as Helena Condis revealed. According to reports, 32-year-old Spanish veteran Marcos Alonso is also experiencing some sort of “minor discomfort.”

For the forthcoming match, the former Chelsea left-back might not be as much of a loss as Ter Stegen. It’s unclear as of right now if he will miss the game permanently or whether he will be able to recuperate in time.

Alonso hasn’t had a particularly productive start to the season. He has only made 4 appearances in La Liga, totaling just 160 minutes. Out of his four appearances, he was only able to play the full ninety minutes against Villarreal.

In addition, he has only made three appearances in the UEFA Champions League and has never won a game from start to finish. His total minutes played in the European Cup thus far is 139 minutes.

Xavi has made it apparent that he prefers to play fullbacks that are more energetic. Compared to Alonso, Alejandro Balde and Joao Cancelo are thought to play left back more consistently.

As a result, some recent rumours even speculated that the Spaniard would wind up quitting Barcelona at the end of the current campaign.
